This is one of my 2 favorite food vendors in the Ferry Building (technically right outside the building near Zott's) I've had the lentil, spinach and chicken patties, and they're all wonderful. What I most appreciate is the consistency; I've never had a bad experience and the patties are consistently delicious. I've never been to Jamaica, so have no idea how authentic they are. I suspect the spices are dimmed down considerably, but they're still darn tasty, as is the spicier sauce served along side. Paired with a beer from adjacent Fort Point Brewery, it's a terrific meal to enjoy on a bench or at a table behind the Ferry Bldg on one of our many sunny days. Service is quick and friendly. Peaches Patties makes me happy to live in SF.
tl;dr The Wednesday/Saturday oxtail is pricey and totally worth it. Medium spicy. Okay, I see I never reviewed their oxtail, which I just had for the second or third time. Yes, I love their jerk chicken and, for any vegans reading this, their Rasta stew is delightful. But today I'm going to wax lyrical about their oxtail, which is only available Wednesdays and Saturdays until they sell out of it. Let's get the elephant, or ox, in the room out of the way first. The price tag. It's $30, and the price wasn't posted. (But you pay up front, fast casual, so it's not like they surprise you at the end, you could always bail before committing.) But let me assure you, it's worth every penny. It's a generous portion - with all the food that came my way I was full for hours. Even more importantly, it was tender, it was marbled, it was absolutely delicious. I was in heaven with each bite. Like pretty much anything there, it's medium spicy. They give you a takeaway container of hot sauce if you want it hotter, but it was just right for me as it was. If you want things mild, this may not be the place for you, but the food is really good, so if you want to give it a shot, ask first. With it came rice with beans, interesting greens with cherry tomatoes, and slightly sweet plantains. It's a lot of food, and all good. They comped me a hibiscus ginger drink, which I'd guess was because I tipped big. It was good and quite gingery. They don't really have any dessert items that I know of, but I wouldn't have had room if they did. If you do, there's plenty of places in the Ferry Building for that. I can also recommend the Rasta stew (vegan) and the jerk chicken. If they're out of oxtail or it's on a day they don't have it, I like to alternate between those two entrees. They also have patties, both meat and veg, that's how they get their name, which are great for a snack. But I encourage you to try their entrees because those really shine. They are in an outside booth toward the Embarcadero toward the north. There are tables underneath the Ferry Building overhang, so good for rainy days, maybe not so much for high wind days. Service is friendly if sparse (again, it's fast causual). Good Jamaican music at a reasonable volume. This is a place I regularly return to because the food is consistently very good. Be aware that they may run out toward the later business hours but that's a good sign that the food is fresh.
I got the jerk chicken meal for lunch which includes Jerk chicken with coconut rice, kale, sautéed bell pepper, and onions. It blew me away! The chicken was very flavorful, spicy, juicy! The plantains on the side complemented the chicken so well. The rice was sweet, and buttery which was refreshing! Usually ordering food in general, white rice comes dry, but Peaches Patties makes such a quality meal with great attention to detail! I will be ordering again for a healthy, balanced lunch!
The smell drew me in. And the bite will keep me coming back. Got myself the curried chicken pattie. The crust itself doesn't have the best flavor on its own, but combined with the spicy curried chicken, it was as good as it could get. I'm a spice over myself, and I thought it was bordering on too spicy for most people. So don't come thinking the curry is mild. Will have to try their other dishes, but so far this is a great addition to the Ferry Building.
We grabbed a curry chicken patty at the outside booth and it was very food. Just a small amount of spice, but not overwhelming at all. The curry flavor was complex and the pastry itself was quite good - delicate but still held together. I suspect the other patties would good as well.
We stopped in here for a light lunch while we were out on the long weekend. The smell is insane when you're walking by, if the scent of Caribbean spices doesn't drag you in, well, I'm not sure what to say! We ordered the spinach and the beef patty for ourselves and our order came out to our table right next to the order window. It was super fast and came with extra hot sauce for adding onto the patties. The hot sauce, btw, is really good, super sour and vinegary, and just enough heat to pack a punch but not be overwhelming. I used most of mine on the spinach patty, while my partner used just a bit as he found the beef extremely well seasoned and didn't want to lose that flavour. The spinach patty is good, but definitely not as intensely seasoned and spiced as the beef (hence the hot sauce really complemented it). My partner found the beef patty to be very rich and delicious. We both enjoyed our food and at the same time, we were extremely jealous of the table next to us that got the stew. That's on our radar for next time we stop by because we are definitely coming back!
What amazing people that work here that also help create such flavorful food. Love grabbing a snack here when I visit the ferry building. All the flavors are amazing and the hot sauce is absolutely perfect. Love this place and will be back as much as I can. So nice to get some spices and flavor not part of the typical pallets.
A taste of Jamaica awaits you at the ferry building at Peaches Patties. I was in town on a weekend and wanted something easy and flavorful, so I looked to the ferry building. Avoid the crowds and tourists by entering from the outside on the northwest of the building. They have a kiosk and outdoor seating that is a bit covered, so no rain. You order at the counter and they will either call or bring your food depending on how busy it is. I ordered a meal with a classic beef patty, rice, beans and plantains with a veg stew. I also got a very tasty hibiscus drink. Things were a bit spicy, but not horrendous (I'm sensitive). Tons and tons of flavor packed into each bite! The pastry was flaky, beans soft, and there was too much food to finish. Although a bit on the higher end of my usual lunches, it was a steal for the area. Delicious and vibrant flavors can be found at the ferry building, just look for Peaches Patties.
Finally got to try Peaches Patties! I've heard so many good things about their food and it's all true. I'm currently dog sitting so it was great that this place is outside the Ferry Building. It's a small outdoor space, with an about 6 tables and three bar tables for standing. I got their patty meal, which is one patty of your choose, rice/beans, plantains, and sautéed veggies. It was the perfect lunch! I chose the curry chicken patty that was literally straight from the oven. I waited 10mins for it (there's usually patties ready but unsurprisingly it was probably the more popular patties). It was worth the wait! The patty had a thin, flaky crust. The curry chicken was packed with flavor! The level of spice was perfect - definitely present but not overpowering. And the minced chicken was moist. The rice and beans had a gentle coconut flavor. The sautéed veggies were delicious! They balanced the flavorful chicken well without being bland. And they were tender so they still had a good bite to them. I love plantains, and their sweetness also added balance to the curry chicken. I definitely want to come back and try more patties!
As we were walking out the Ferry Building, I asked my friend whether she ever tried a Jamaican Pattie's and she said no. I told her that it's similar to an empanadas and really yummy. So she was game to try it. I got her a Beef Patties meal that came with rice, veggies and plantains because she likes plantains. I got an extra Beef Pattie's for myself. We sat down at a table nearby and dug into the food. She loved it and said she would definitely come back for more next time. We ended up splitting one beef Pattie's into half to share because I didn't want to eat the whole thing and it was slightly too salty for me. She ate all of her plantains and thought it was delicious too. We packed the rest to go so she can eat it later at her hotel. Peaches Patties continued to impress. Great ambiance and friendly staff.
